Lecture STO-2 Balloon Mission over Antarctica by Dr. Jian Rong Gao

In an earlier news item on this site, the very successful launch of the Stratospheric Terahertz Observatory (STO2) on December 8th 2016 was already described. On March 7th, NVR together with the TU Delft Space Institute (DSI) organised an evening lecture about this launch at the TU Delft Faculty of Aerospace Engineering.

At this lecture, Dr. Jian Rong Gao, themeleader of the DSI and co-investigator of the Dutch contribution to STO-2, presented the goal of the mission and discussed the detection technology used in STO-2, the payload, the balloon as well as the launch and recovery at Antarctica.

He has been in Antarctica for a period of ca. three weeks (Nov-Dec 2016).
